Where Has the Time Gone?

Good grief!!! Was it really 2008 when I last updated my blog??? Where has the time gone??? (Well not into sorting out my USB thingy - that's for sure!!)

And it is nearly the end of 2010! Wow ... what a year 2010 has been. My beloved small brown hairy Battersea boy dog - Wilfy died in May - I was absolutely devastated. My aunt also died that month and it is the month when my mother died in 2006 so May is not a pleasant month for me...

In June I got a small monochrome moggy - donated by a family whose eldest had become allergic to the cat hair and were looking for someone to adopt her, so now we have a very sweet and affectionate pussy cat at home. She's lovely.

I had hoped to go to Spain this Christmas but this will not be possible - which is a shame, but there we are.

I am almost ready for Christmas (gasp!) and looking forward to a well earned break! Well, let's see how that one pans out ...

Belated Valentine's Greetings

I wasn't able to get this post sorted in time for yesterday, so here it is today instead.

Gustavo Adolfo Becquer is a 19th century Spanish poet and writer, born in Sevilla on 17 February 1836 and died in Madrid on 22 December 1870. One of his most famous literary works is "Rimas" - "Rhymes". They are a collection of love poems that fall into three categories - the first batch are the search for love, the second batch are about the experience of love (they are normally short 4 or 8 lines and are so passionate and romantic that they take your breath away and the finally the third batch are the loss of love.

This one is Rima 22 (part of the second batch - the experience of love)

Por una mirada, un mundo;
por una sonrisa, un cielo;
por un beso... yo no sé
que te diera por un beso.

This is my translation of the poem:

For a look, the world;
for a smile, the sky;
for a kiss … I don’t know
what I would give you for a kiss.

Aaaaah, here's hoping 2008 is as romantic ...

Smile, say "Cheese"

I must get my USB cable thingy (I am a true "techno-geek" as you see) so I can plug it in and download my photos.

I often look at the photos on Flickr and other people's blogs and my gosh - there are some really talented people out there, (I can just see my photos beginning to wilt around the edges at the very thought of them). Nevertheless, I shall continue, practice makes perfect - actually practice makes a perfect mess - but it is cathartic. I was inspired in December to do a Year in Photos - One Photo for every day - that I have seen people do on Flickr - January 1st started well as did January 2nd and then my camera must have entered some sort of time wormhole because after 42 days hiding somewhere, it suddenly reappeared on my sideboard yesterday ... hmmm the "let's really annoy people and hide their stuff" pixies are alive and well and apparently all living in my house along with the "hey, let's show these human what mess REALLY is" pixies ... still now if I can find my USB cable thingy - we're off! - And only 42 days missing! (Maybe I should just take an extra 42 photos - I can't work the date thingy on the camera - so no one will be any the wiser! Cool!!

Where Has All the Good Luck Gone?

Well, it's been a few days since my last post - and I'd only posted twice - but last Saturday I had my purse stolen from my bag whilst out shopping. This as you can imagine was really annoying and because it had my ID card I had to go to the police station and inform them of the theft. The policewoman at the counter was very nice, friendly and helpful, but just this once could it not have been a tall, dark, somewhat muscular policeman - strong and handsome and single (naturally) - although had that been the case he would probably have been called Gervaise and lived either at home with his mother or with his boyfriend Jerome - (or if we are being realistic about the lucky strokes in my life) he would be living at home with his boyfriend and mother ... but hey, we could probably have swapped crochet patterns.

So now I must face the world without money. In fact, it is quite liberating and actually fairly shocking to know just how much money I waste per day!! So I may in fact wait a while before getting my bank card - it's a novel way of saving money - not being able to access it, but in my case it is probably a good thing and I can feel smug (always pleasant) and feel as if I am doing something for the environment (ie not buying unnecessary stuff, unnecessarily packaged and unnecessarily expensive!)

Ah well, "every cloud..." as they say - (but since we are talking about my luck - that sentence should end "every cloud will positively pour down on you"!

Until the next time.

Birthday Reds - Blood Reds

Today is my birthday and somehow I didn't envisage spending the morning in a clinic waiting to have a blood test taken (thyroid issues ...). I hate needles and syringes - they hurt and the process is painful - I don't care what anyone says! So now, having had the blood extricated, I am walking around with my arm bent, looking somewhat effete, as I am aware I have had blood tests done - talk about a vicious circle ...

Anyway tonight should be fun! My son and I will be eating all our fave foods and birthday cake - the dog should be happy too (he likes cake) and we can all go to bed on a huge sugar rush!

Can't wait for tomorrow!

The Day Before Forty-er Birthday

Oh my gosh! I have reached my 40-something years and yet I seem to be suffering from some sort of Groundhog Day where I appear to be reliving my twenties and not really moving on any! Aarrghh! What went wrong! Everyone else has matured etc etc (I have certainly aged) (and there are definitely a few people out there who are living the life I supposed - drat!!!) I suppose it's too late to start again ...

Now this may seem a woeful, self pitying rant - but it isn't really - it's just strange how things work out and you end up living a life completely different from the one you expected to. Two fabulous and brilliant things to happen to me have been my son and my dog - Stanley and Wilf. It's just unfortunate that they have a love- hate relationship - my dog loves to hate my son (I didn't see that one coming ...)

I must try and organise my photos and get this blog really up and running. Anyway as I embark on a new year - for me that is I look forward to enjoying this year.

Getting on with my crafting, my garden and meeting up with family and friends in Spain this summer.

Well, that's all for now!

Bye!
